Outreach

Music Together® has a long history of inclusion, bringing this valuable program to among others, at-risk and teenage mothers in and out of the judicial system, children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, the deaf and hard-of hearing, the elderly, and families whose children are undergoing cancer treatment. We are proud to contribute to this rich tradition and are committed to bringing Music Together to members of our community who may not otherwise have access to an educational program of this caliber.

Special Needs
Standing Tall was founded in 1997 by a group of parents, medical professionals and educators seeking a more powerful and integrated approach to educating young children with motor issues. Standing Tall’s daytime programs for pre-school and school age children combine a highly structured, intensive program of daily physical training with traditional academic studies. Young students use their bodies actively throughout the day while learning reading, math, literature, music, science and art. They get out of their chairs - quite literally “standing tall” - to meet physical as well as academic goals. Weekly Music Together classes have been a vital part of the school’s curriculum since its inception. www.standingtall.org

Care Facilities
The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing for pediatric cancer patients and their families. Here families find a strong, supportive and caring environment which encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems. Every day, children form friendships with other children and, through these bonds, regain a sense of control and experience the fun of childhood. Parents also gain strength and new understanding through the friendships they form with other parents who understand exactly how they feel.

Music plays a healing role in the lives of the families staying at RMDH and making music with their children can bring smiles and joy in their otherwise stressful lives. We bring our Music Together class to RMDH weekly, and all families receive the materials to take home with them regardless of their length of stay in New York City. This program has been made possible through the generous support of families in our Parent/Child program. www.rmdh.org

Low-Income Families
Baby Basics NYC strives to ensure babies at risk have the opportunity to thrive. By consistently providing community connection, parenting education and diapers, Baby Basics NYC helps financially stressed, low income working families create and sustain a nurturing and healthy family environment. We provide interactive workshop classes in the Music Together style for at-risk mothers and their children, which foster and support their growing competencies in parenting. www.babybasicsnyc.org

Community Support
Choices In Childbirth’s mission is to improve maternity care by providing the public, especially childbearing women and their families, with the information necessary to make fully informed decisions relating to how, where, and with whom they will give birth. Eastside Westside Music Together has been a proud host to some of CIC’s free monthly informational meetings. www.choicesinchildbirth.org
